In belt-driven power transmission systems, a variable-pitch pulley is mounted on the drive shaft. By adjusting the distance between the drive and driven shafts, the belt pitch is forcibly altered to change the rotational speed. The use of wide-width variable-speed belts allows for a wider range of gear ratios and higher capacity. Since the pulley is split on both sides, belt life is also ensured.
