Spring Applied Brakes
This component is designed to
apply a brake to a rotating shaft by clamping a plate-shaped rotor—which is secured to the shaft—using the force of springs or permanent magnets. When an electric current is applied, it generates an electromagnetic force that overcomes the spring force holding the rotor in place, thereby releasing the rotating
shaft. This component is used to maintain the position of mechanical equipment when the power is off and as a safety mechanism during power outages.
